Jenolan in the Community
Our community covers the local government areas of Oberon, Lithgow and the Blue Mountains. The people of our community have a diversity of values and cultures. They have a strong work ethic, and they are environmentally aware. Jenolan Caves shares these values, provides work opportunities and promotes a conservation ethic.
Benefits to local community
Every year, we welcome over 220,000 visitors. While traveling to and from Jenolan Caves, our visitors stop in the Blue Mountains and other nearby areas, to purchase fuel, meals and accommodation.
Jenolan Caves produces a 'pull-through effect', drawing visitors into the region and beyond, to Oberon, Bathurst and inland areas of NSW. Our expenditure generates increased activity in the regional economy. We estimate that our current economic impact to the region is approximately $20 million per year.
Most of our suppliers are based in the Bathurst, Blue Mountains, Oberon and Lithgow areas. We employ over 100 staff, most from local council areas. We provide work experience opportunities for students. Every year, we pay several million dollars in wages alone, and, of course, all this money goes back into the regional economy.
We are a significant charity sponsor in our region and beyond. Every year, we donate literally hundreds of cave tour tickets to a multitude of fundraising groups, schools and charities.
