The Orient Cave could well be the most beautiful cave in the world. As you move through the Orient Cave, from one breathtaking chamber to one even more highly decorated, you will be awestruck! The Orient contains the astonishing Persian Chamber and Egyptian Chamber.
The Orient Cave was discovered by James Wiburd, Jack Edwards and Robert Bailey in 1904 and was opened for public inspection on 28th December 1917. There are three richly decorated chambers in the Orient Cave and their visual impact will leave you breathless with the rich display of colour and the massive size and extent of it's decorations.
The first chamber of the Orient Cave (Bat End) can be accessed by wheelchair! Although a wheelchair can go no further into the cave, it still brings you close to a range of beautiful formations.Breathtaking beauty
When you visit any of Jenolan's 'show' caves, your experience is enhanced by the use of sophisticated lighting, subtly positioned to accentuate the colours of the spectacular formations. In 2008 the stunning Orient Cave was upgraded with a sensational new lighting system.
A dedicated team of Jenolan guides and electricians spent many months on the project which involved placing hundreds of lights and kilometers of cables in one of the most delicate and fragile crystal caves in Australia. The new lighting was carefully designed to highlight the myriad decorations of the cave as they have never been seen before.
The new system is environmentally friendly, using entirely low energy LEDs manufactured by Weidmuller Australia, which create an amazing effect using a fraction of the previous power usage and minimizing heat output, which would otherwise be damaging to the sensitive cave environment. So not only is the Orient Cave even more spectacular than ever, it is also better protected for future generations to enjoy.
