It has been estimated that there are approximately 40km of caves at Jenolan. About 3km are open to the general public as 'show' caves. Some are open for 'Adventure Caving'. Others are open to speleological groups only. And still others fall into the 'off the track' category.
These are caves which were part of show cave tours until the early 1900's. As more caves were discovered, some older sections were gradually closed to the public.
Donning helmet and headlamp on the 'Off the Track' tour, explore dark pathways, which are no longer on the regular tour timetable. It's one of our most fascinating tours. Until you assemble for the tour, you will not know which rarely seen caves you will see. You might go to caves with names like 'Architects Studio', 'The Shambles', 'The Jersey', 'Lily of the Valley' and the 'Red and White Temples'.
Amongst our many tours, the 'Off the Track Tour' is unique. It feels like more of an adventure than a show cave tour. We recommend you wear sturdy clothing which may get dirty. Non-slip shoes are essential. You may explore some tight and damp spaces. You must be able to climb steep stairs and bend. If you have average mobility and flexibility, you can do this tour.
The 'Off the Track' tour does not run every day. Please check our timetable. It takes only 15 people, so please book.
