Kidney Kars at the Kaves
On Saturday, August 13, 70 cars from The Kidney Kar Rally visited Jenolan Caves for lunch in Chisolm’s Restaurant, upstairs in Caves House.
By road it is only 28 km from Oberon to Jenolan, but in a gruelling test of skill, these cars did it the long, hard way, through private properties, National Parks and pine forests, covering approximately 400km return. It’s all part of the fun of this totally off-road event, which raises awareness of kidney disease in each area through which it passes.
The rally teams cover thousands of kilometres through the Australian countryside, each travelling 500 to 600 km per day. This year, the 8 day event will take them from Bathurst to Taree, via Dubbo.
The Kidney Kar Rally has been held annually since 1989, to cap off a full year of fundraising. Throughout the year, each rally participant holds their own fundraising events to raise money for Kidney Health Australia. The money helps run Kidney Kids Camps, Kidney Kids Capers and Young Adult Programs. Each rally car driver must raise at least $4,500 over the year (and other participating vehicles must raise at least $2500) to qualify them to participate in this extraordinary rally. Many teams participate because of their own personal stories relating to kidney disease.
