Heritage Listing - Why is Caves House so Precious?
To be listed on the NSW State Heritage Register, Jenolan Caves House was identified as meeting a range of cultural standards - aesthetic, historic and social, making it significant for past, present and future generations.
In 1897, the grand hotel, Jenolan Caves House, was completed, as a wilderness retreat for the wealthy. It was designed in the Colonial Architect’s office, under the supervision of Colonel Walter Liberty Vernon (1846 – 1914).
Caves House sits alongside Jenolan Caves, Australia’s most well-known cave system and longest continually operating tourist attraction. Along with all the buildings in the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve, Caves House was added to the NSW State Heritage Register in 2004. Today Caves House is regarded as one of the finest large guest houses still functioning as tourist accommodation. It is an icon of the Blue Mountains. www.jenolancaves.org.au/about/caves-house-on-state-heritage-register/

New, FREE 'Jenolan Trails' Signage is Ready for You to Enjoy
Earlier this year, we launched our new, free 'Jenolan Trails' app, which you can download onto your iPhone before coming to Jenolan. The new app guides you along our 3 bush walks - 'Working Waters', 'Shaping Waters' and 'Healing Waters'. In addition, we now have new, informative signage along each of these walks.
So, if you arrive at Jenolan and you don't have the app yet, you can still get the most out of our bushwalks, simply by following our new signage. Water is central to Jenolan Caves. If you are interested in how our caves were formed ('Shaping Waters'), the technology that has enabled visitors to view the caves ('Working Waters') or the Aboriginal heritage of Jenolan Caves ('Healing Waters'), these bushwalks are for you! www.jenolancaves.org.au/the-caves/bushwalks/

Winter brings snow to the region around Jenolan Caves - Hampton and Oberon. But even so, the caves remain a constant 15 degrees Celcius - perfect for walking and climbing stairs!
Exploring our caves lets you exercise your way to great legs. Walking, both above and below ground, is terrific for your heart, lungs and circulation! Think of all the kilojoules you burn when you tour just one of our caves - and we have so many!
If you did 3 cave activities each day, you could stay at Jenolan for more than a week, enjoying fresh air, unwinding, getting fit, learning new things, having amazing experiences, bonding with your family, rekindling romance - having a truly memorable time!
