The Ecotourism Stamp of Approval!
We have been officially recognised as one of Australia's leading and most innovative ecotourism providers, committed to best practice in using resources, conserving the environment and helping local communities.
We have worked hard to achieve this certification from Ecotourism Australia. Our work is not new. For more than 100 years, we have done our best to preserve the caves for future generations. In 1872, Jenolan Caves were the first caves in the world to be granted legal protection. Jenolan Caves built Australia’s first hydro-electric system, finished in 1917, and still in use. Our own sewage plant provides primary and tertiary treatment with ultra-violet light. Discharged water is 99.9% pure. www.jenolancaves.org.au/news.asp?pid=83&id=27

We Entered the Regional Tourism Awards
Yesterday, we submitted our entry, 'Written in Stone', to the Blue Mountains, Lithgow & Oberon Tourism's Awards for Excellence. We almost missed the deadline, but just made it, with only 10 minutes to spare!
We hope to win the award for 'heritage & culture'. Jenolan is so much more than a big cave system! We believe we have a good chance of winning, because of our underground concerts and performances, heritage listed accommodation, new Aboriginal culture self guided tours and new, free themed bushwalks.
In the past 5 years, we have won 31 tourism awards. But we never take them for granted. Each win means we have to try even harder next time, to maintain our standard.
Tourism plays a major role in the economy of the Blue Mountains and the Central West. Every award win brings more tourists to our ruggedly beautiful region!

New 'Jenolan Trails' Signage is Ready to Enjoy
Earlier this year, we launched our new, free 'Jenolan Trails' app, which you can download onto your iPhone, before coming to Jenolan. The new app guides you along our 3 bush walks - 'Working Waters', 'Shaping Waters' and 'Healing Waters'. Now, we also have new, informative signs along each of these walks.
So, if you arrive at Jenolan and you don't have the app yet, you can still get the most out of our bushwalks, simply by following our new signs. If you are interested in how our caves were formed ('Shaping Waters'), the technology that has enabled visitors to view the caves ('Working Waters') or our Aboriginal heritage ('Healing Waters'), these bushwalks are for you! www.jenolancaves.org.au/the-caves/bushwalks/

Caves House is Part of Our 'National Identity'!
Jenolan Caves House was listed on the NSW State Heritage Register in 2004. To be listed, Caves House was identified as meeting a range of cultural standards - aesthetic, historic and social, making it significant for past, present and future generations.
In 1897, the grand hotel, Jenolan Caves House, was completed, as a wilderness retreat for the wealthy. It was designed in the Colonial Architect’s office, under the supervision of Colonel Walter Liberty Vernon (1846 – 1914).
Today Caves House is regarded as one of the finest large guest houses from the Edwardian era, still functioning as tourist accommodation. It is an icon of the Blue Mountains. Book your stay. www.jenolancaves.org.au/about/caves-house-on-state-heritage-register/
