COMPLEMENTARY Self-Guided Tour Reopened!
This self-guided cave tour has been closed for 4 months, but has now reopened and is, once again, complementary when you purchase one of our show cave tours.
To tour the massive Devils' Coach House Cave and the Nettle Cave, you follow a trail using a digital handset developed by Acoustiguide. Hear as much as you choose. Explore at your own pace. This 'twilight' cave features huge open caverns - great for those who avoid enclosed spaces.
Hear the commentary in your language. There is also a lively commentary for kids. You can even choose an Aboriginal Culture commentary. Remember to make time to do this self-guided tour before, after or between your guided tours. www.jenolancaves.org.au/the-caves/selfguided-audio-tour/

Great Food at Chisolm's Restaurant

EXPERIENCE Printhies - Wines from Australia's Coolest Wine Region.
Part of the Jenolan magic is dinner in our magnificent Chisolms Restaurant, upstairs in Caves House.
This month, we feature Printhies Wines, from Orange. Amongst many delicious wines, we serve a dry Riesling and a fine Merlot from our Printhies selection.
Printhies is a family run vineyard and winery, located in Australia's highest altitude wine growing area. Cool climate wines often show more green, herbaceous flavors and more earthy or mineral-like character mixed in with the fruitiness. Their flavors unfold over the years, as they mature. www.jenolancaves.org.au/dining/chisolms-restaurant/wine-menu/

Paranormal Activity!

We are One of Australia's Most Haunted!
We are quite excited about this. As mentioned in our last e-newsletter, the film crew for Australias Most Haunted paid us a 3rd visit.
They sett up sophisticated sound and imaging equipment and detected a wealth of EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) - voices, singing, footsteps, rustling of clothing, doors closing, etc.
We hope that the complete episode will air later this year. But in the mean time, they have made a 'teaser' for the episode, which you can enjoy on YouTube.
Keep an eye out for the program on TV.

The Bad Old Days!
|
What Would You Do for a Tin of Lambs Tongues?
I found this old article from the Australian Town & Country Journal, 9 June 1894, in which a journalist recounts his visit to a rough and ready Jenolan Caves in 1880.
In those days, before Caves House, evidently the upside of staying in a shack at Jenolan was that you could stick your rifle out between the timber slabs and shoot wallabies by moonlight! But the writer was not equally excited by the prospect of salted horse for dinner. So when a temping (?) tin of lambs tongues was stolen by a tiger quoll and dropped into the depths of a cave, he got in 'A Tight Fix' trying to retrieve it. Not my idea of a holiday, but those were the bad old days! You must read the article - click the link below. trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/page/5241248
