3P Learning launched its educational science platform, IntoScience, in 2012. However, now it has taken science education to exciting new levels. Collaborating with the CSIRO and Jenolan Caves, 3P Learning has developed the very first real-world, virtual learning environment for teachers and students.
In National Science Week (16-24 August 2014), students across Australia can participate in a free virtual excursion to the Jenolan Caves for 'Australia's Biggest School Excursion'.
Using CSIRO’s laser scanning technology, ‘Zebedee’, they have developed a virtual, interactive environment which replicates the interiors of the Jenolan Caves, exactly . This environment gives students the unique opportunity to experience the marvels of the caves, taking students on a totally immersive, educational journey where they can discover how the caves were formed. With science activities mapped to the Australian Curriculum, this is a truly exciting, educational experience.
In National Science Week (16-24 August 2014), Aussie schools can participate in a free virtual excursion to the Jenolan Caves – ‘Australia's Biggest School Excursion’.
3P Learning has undertaken this challenge to inspire students to engage with science, technology and Australian geography. The virtual Jenolan Caves operate as both a teaching and learning tool, providing teachers and students with an interactive resource to excite interest in scientific discovery.
Jenolan Caves is one of Australia's most amazing natural wonders, and students across the nation should take this opportunity to experience the intricacies of this ancient cave system.
The program also works as a fantastic complement to school field trips to the Jenolan Caves - providing teachers with fun and educational activities.
So far, over 500 schools have expressed interested in participating in the program, with more expressing interest each day. 3P Learning aims to break a Guinness World Record with their event, which need 5,000 students to simultaneously participate in the virtual excursion - fingers crossed!
This is a 3P Learning online initiative, so please do not contact Jenolan Caves about this event. For more information, and to register, see the official website.
The 3P Learning team has also created a great video which shows some highlights of the virtual environment. See it for a sneak peek.
