Virtual Cave Environment
|
Hurry Teachers! - Aug 16-24 - Help Break a Guinness World Record!
If you are a teacher, read about this futuristic online classroom tool, developed by the CSIRO. Then, register to participate in the pilot program during National Science Week - FREE.
Back in February, the CSIRO announced the development of an 'interactive online environment' to help school students learn about the natural world.
Well, now 3P Learning is trialing the Jenolan Caves Investigation Program. They need schools to participate. Your school can be an IntoScience Pilot School.
The Jenolan Caves Investigation Program is a string of activities which students complete as they make their way around the virtual cave system. Their primary goal is to discover how the caves have formed, but many avenues of investigation are open to the students, such as classifying local animals, discovering important artefacts from the cave’s history and learning about the crystal formations found in the caves.
Click here, to find out more, and register for the pilot program.
It will be Australia's biggest virtual school excursion - National Science Week's biggest online learning event!
We hope this online teaching tool will inspire school groups to visit Jenolan to see the real thing.

Three of our trails are underground. There is an adult's and children's self-guided tour, which takes you through the Grand Arch, Devil's Coach House Cave, and the Nettle Cave. With the adult's version, you can choose from several major languages. Or you can choose a local Aboriginal culture version, which follows the same path.
Three longer walking trails take you on journeys above ground, exploring the rock formations, valley and river systems.
You can enjoy the app wherever you are. But, it is best used at Jenolan Caves, to help you get the most out of our bush walking trails. www.jenolancaves.org.au/visitor-info/iphone-apps/

Experience the Mayfield Gardens
|
NEW - Another Major Attraction in Oberon Region
For too long, Jenolan Caves has been the only major attraction in the Oberon region. But from the end of September, on your way to or from Jenolan Caves, you can experience the majestic Mayfield Gardens. You won't believe your eyes!
Many years in the making, Mayfield is one of the world’s largest privately owned cool climate gardens. Owned by the Hawkins family, Mayfield Garden extends across more than 160 acres (64 hectares). Numerous follies and features are blended into the landscape: a breath-taking 80 metre cascade, a walled kitchen garden; a stunning Water Garden; aviary, chapel, rose garden, Islamic style pond and much, much more.
For the past several years, Mayfield has been open to the public twice a year only. But from September 27, it will be open year round.
While staying at Jenolan, take a day trip to Mayfield! It is stunning. www.mayfieldgarden.com.au/

FUN in School Holidays - Kids' Cave Tours
During NSW school holidays, on select days, we run specially designed tours for children, age 7 to 11 - 'Stones & Bones' and 'Bats Bugs & Beasties'. These tours enable children to experience the caves, through fun activities that they can understand.
Parents cannot go on either of these tours, except as a carer of a disabled child. It is a good opportunity for parents to explore the caves, stroll around the reserve on one of our nature trails, or relax in the bistro or bar.
For teenagers and adults, all our show cave tours are fantastic! Also our fun, challenging 'Plughole Adventure Tour' runs every day, building confidence and teamwork. www.jenolancaves.org.au/the-caves/childrens-tours/

Evening Activities
|
Slink through the Shadows on Night Tours
There is so much to do at Jenolan that we even run cave tours every evening except Sundays. They are usually tours that are unavailable during the day.
We run our intriguing 'Legends, Mysteries & Ghosts' tour (min. age 10) every Wednesday and Saturday night. By torchlight, listen to stories of the unexplained, as you wander through the dark caves.
Our 'Off the Track' tour runs on Tuesday evenings. In the caves, by the light of your headlamp, you explore sections that are no longer on the tourist trail -places that time has forgotten!
On other evenings, we run extended tours of the Temple of Baal Cave and The Orient Cave and more. Our night tours are an unforgettable to spend an evening, especially if you are staying the night. www.jenolancaves.org.au/the-caves/night-tours/

Achieve the Extraordinary!
|
Dare to Meet the Challenge of Adventure Caving!
No Experience Necessary! The ever popular 'Plughole Adventure' tour is 2 challenging hours, including abseiling (weather permitting) climbing, squeezing and crawling, deep underground. Overalls, harness, helmet, headlamp and safety briefing. Then you're ready for your amazing journey.
This is about stepping outside your comfort zone. We've seen strong men panic and women cry. Actually, we hardly ever see that, although the experience is different for everyone. We can say that all who emerge from the Plughole Adventure Caving experience know they've gained something - pride in what they can achieve! Adventure Caving develops mind, body and spirit. The risks are real on this very different (yet fun) experience, so we mentor you every step of the way. Our adventure guides are nationally accredited. For many participants, it is a psychological journey, about mastering fears and helping others to do the same.
Over the past 15 or so years, literally thousands of seemingly ordinary people have achieved the extraordinary on the Plughole Adventure. If you are of average flexibility (and over 10 years old), give it a try! www.jenolancaves.org.au/the-caves/adventure-caving/plughole-adventure-tour/
