School programs and activities

Jenolan has been an exciting destination for school groups for over seventy years. Our caves, wildlife, karst environment and waterways provide a natural laboratory for learning and appreciation of the natural world.

We offer schools curriculum-based programs that we can develop in collaboration with you so that your excursion meets the needs of both students and teachers. Meal and accommodation packages can be arranged, or you can plan a day excursion.

Special programs developed for schools include Science in the Chifley, an activity in the stunning Chifley Cave that highlights the scientific work done in the cave and explores natural processes in caves (including cave formation, cave crystal, fossils in caves, hydrology, chemistry, mineralogy, cave adaptions and subterranean ecosystems). You might want to challenge your students on the adventurous Plughole Experience, an introductory-level caving activity that includes a short abseil into the cave.

Above-ground schools activities include a karst walk developed for schools featuring karst features, limestone geology, native flora and wildlife spotting. Historic Caves House offers a unique opportunity to study regional tourism and geography. Other surface walks can be either self guided (free) or guided (for an extra cost). Feel free to download our above ground map.
