Exciting conservations efforts at the National Parks Conservation Forum

National Parks Wildlife Service (NPWS) held their second ever conservation forum in May, and our very own Dr Anne Musser (Conservation and Campaigns Officer), was invited to speak, with over 160 people in attendance, including our Environment, Heritage and Assets Officer, Jordan Macdonald.

The theme of the Forum this year was ‘Conservation through Connection’: an opportunity to share conservation knowledge, experiences and achievements and to make connections/’transferable learning’ and key takeaways.

Anne presented a talk on the research she and her colleagues have been doing on Jenolan’s platypuses, entitled ‘Platypus conservation at Jenolan: working together to protect an Australian icon.

Other talks highlighted work on threatened species and habitat, ecosystem management; Aboriginal partnerships; weed management, new wildlife monitoring methods; and workshops on fire management and threatened species.

Included in the conservation forum were three field trips including:

  • Wianamatta Regional Park: hidden wildlife wonders of the Cumberland Plain

  • Scheyville National Park (recovering Cumberland Plain woodland)

  • Yellomundi Regional Park (restoration of eucalypt woodland and Indigenous history)

It was another fantastic forum held by NPWS, and Jenolan values the opportunity to share important conservation efforts and projects that are taking place within Jenolan Caves.
